AP Interview: Amusement park CEO expects good summer  Amusement parks and water parks aren't likely to see a drop off in visitors this summer despite surging gas prices and the struggling economy, the head of North America's third-largest park operator said Wednesday. Families and teens still will come to ride roller coasters and gobble up funnel cakes and corn dogs, but they'll probably spend less on games and souvenirs, said Richard Kinzel, chief executive of Cedar Fair Entertainment Co.

Disneyland too pricey for Wheatland  Higher fuel costs to reach the "happiest place on earth" have hit the Wheatland High School senior class trip to Disneyland — pushing the price for each student to $525. "It's just sad," said Patty Agles, a school counselor. "There's nothing you can do about it."

Plan withdrawn to turn Pyramid into theme park  MEMPHIS — A marketing firm has withdrawn a proposal to transform the vacant Pyramid into a theme park.  Greg Ericson told WMC-TV Wednesday that city and county leaders delayed acting on the proposal.

Agawam retains right to use special lawyer in any Six Flags suits  AGAWAM - With a lawsuit contesting the Zoning Board of Appeal's special permit for Six Flags New England to build an indoor roller coaster still pending, the City Council has opted to keep the board's request for access to independent legal counsel on its agenda.

MONTREAL, May 7 /CNW Telbec/ - L'International des Feux Loto-Québec presented by TELUS is seeking 19 fireworks enthusiasts to serve this summer as members of the jury of Montreal's annual international fireworks competition. These theme parks are classic summertime fixtures A glance at the Santa Cruz Boardwalk and Great America  With amusement park season upon us, the need for thrills is evident, but where are the best places to go? Two nearby theme parks you might consider are Paramount's Great America in Santa Clara, or the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. Both have a lot to offer in very different settings. Great America is well known for its great roller coaster Flight Deck, which used to be known as Top Gun.

Memories of White Swan Park White Swan Park didn't have the fastest roller coasters like West View Park, and it really wasn't a place classmates gathered each spring for school picnics like Kennywood Park. But the small amusement park that occupied the land at what is now the junction of Route 60 and Business Route 60 on the border of Findlay and Moon still was a popular spring and summer attraction for corporate, group and civic events.

Baby's first rollercoaster ALTON Towers theme park plans to build a rollercoaster for babies. The ride - called the Babycoaster - comes with teddy bear-shaped carriages and travels at 2mph, designed to replicate the motion of being pushed in a pram.

Amusement parks finest place of retreat  Come summer and the vacations are incomplete without a trip to an amusement park. Not just kids, even adults look forward to these outings. According to the Indian Association of Amusement Parks and Industries (IAAPI), the size of the Indian amusement park business is estimated to be around Rs 4,000 crore, and is expected to grow 6% annually till 2010.

Thriller slides open at Sun Splash Attractions expected to draw more people  Three new high-speed slides are making a big splash at Sun Splash Family Waterpark. The Thunder Bump, Terror Tube and X-celerator opened last week and seem to be the craze of the city's 12-acre water park at 400 Santa Barbara Blvd.

Water theme park planned Frogland’ draws on Rayne festival  A private investment group headed by Baton Rouge developer Tom Nolan Sr. could be within a few months of breaking ground on “Frogland USA,” a proposed Acadia Parish water theme park based on the annual frog festival in Rayne.

Marcus Hotels and Resorts to Manage 7th Wave Water Park Resort Near Providence, Rhode Island   MILWAUKEE - (Business Wire) Marcus Hotels and Resorts, a division of The Marcus Corporation (NYSE: MCS), today announced it has been selected by Dial Family Resorts, headquartered in Omaha, Neb., to manage the new 7th Wave Resort, a $150 million water park project to be built just south of Providence in West Warwick, R.I.

Newsweek Highlights Frog Bog  Newsweek has included the Newport Aquarium in the “Tip Sheet” section of its May 12 issue. On newsstands this week, the magazine features Newport Aquarium’s Frog Bog exhibit in a round-up of “Gardens that go ‘Ribbit’” along with several other plant and animal facilities from across the country.

"Ripley's Believe It or Not!" in Hawaii  The May/June 2008 issue of HAWAII Magazine features a story on cartoonist Robert Ripley’s fascination with our Islands. Ripley created Ripley’s Believe It or Not! —the strange-but-true trivia-filled newspaper cartoon series. And, reports writer Greg Daugherty, he visited Hawaii four or five times during his brief, illustrious life.

IMAX Is in the Money  If all the world's a stage, it's good to know that IMAX (Nasdaq: IMAX) can finally afford to be a player. IMAX shares climbed 6% on Tuesday, after the company lined up financing to complete its part of a joint venture plan that will introduce IMAX's new digital systems in some leading multiplexes.

Fairground tenants not amused by £2m plans  UK  A LEISURE boss is facing opposition over a seafront family entertainment centre from fellow fairground tenants – and some of his own family. At least 17 ride operators, stall holders and caterers have voiced their opposition to the proposed development at Ocean Beach Pleasure Park in South Shields.
