Amusement/Theme Park News Six Flags to develop thrill parks in Dubailand Tatweer, a member of Dubai Holding, announced today a strategic alliance with US-based Six Flags Inc, the world's largest theme park company, to develop thrill-driven theme parks across the Arab world. The highlight of the strategic alliance will be the development of Six Flags Dubailand, a five million square feet multi-billion dirham theme park within the world’s largest tourism, leisure and entertainment destination. Park changes hands GILROY Residents got their new 536-acre park Friday for exactly $13,247,484.76. Council members rallied together late January to unanimously approve the city's purchase of Gilroy Gardens, and the close of escrow and final hand shake came Friday afternoon. Discovery Kingdom to open 40th season Six Flags Discovery Kingdom begins its 40th year when it opens to the public on Saturday, park officials said. This season also marks the park's second year with its Land, Sea and Sky areas. Last year's park transformation included a name change that better reflects the park's unique offerings as a wildlife, oceanarium and theme park, officials said. Amusement exec eyes theme park Jerry Murphy, who runs the Tulsa State Fair midway, has signed a letter of intent, but he says a deal isn't imminent. Carnival operator Jerry Murphy downplayed on Monday a newspaper report that he is close to buying an amusement park north of Wichita. Local clergy to see Bible park plans Developers of Bible Park USA will be breaking bread with a few local ministers today. The gathering is designed to inform pastors about the details of the proposed Bible-story park in the Blackman area and to take feedback on what they think of the park, as well as any suggestions they may have. Bible park developers previously assembled a panel of theologians and experts in the Bible for their ideas. Six Flags To Launch New $7.5 Mln Ride At Three Of Its Parks Monday, Six Flags, Inc. (SIX | news | PowerRating | PR Charts ) released key thematic elements of "The Dark Knight Coaster," an indoor roller coaster based on Warner Bros. Pictures' upcoming movie, The Dark Knight. The company noted that the $7.5 million ride Featuring DC Comics' characters Batman and The Joker will open at three parks including the Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, NJ; Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, IL; and Six Flags New England in Agawam, MA, this spring. Construction begins on Indiana Beach’s Steel Hawg coaster As the city of Monticello puts away its snow shovels, the crew at Indiana Beach brought out their backhoes and began digging the footers for the park’s sixth roller coaster the Steel Hawg. Pieces of the custom steel inverting coaster began arriving at the 83 year-old amusement park last week. The ride is being manufactured by S & S Worldwide, Inc., and ride sections are scheduled to continue to arrive over the next several weeks. Stone Mountain Park Marks 50th Anniversary Park celebrates by digitally remastering famed LASERSHOW SPECTACULAR™, opening new $1 million SKY HIKE attraction Stone Mountain, GA (February 26, 2008) – Stone Mountain Park announced plans today to kick off its yearlong 50th anniversary celebration. The Georgia icon is home to the world’s largest piece of exposed granite rock and is the state’s most visited attraction. WORCESTER: Commissioners to revisit Jenkins tax request OCEAN CITY -- The Worcester County Com-missioners will revisit whether to support legislated tax relief for a resort amusement park. The commissioners are slated this morning to again review Buddy Jenkins' request for tax breaks on his Jolly Roger Amusement Park properties. Permits for Theme Park Still in Up the Air WHEELING -- With the Highlands now a retail and restaurant destination, many are wondering when the Wild Escape Theme Park will be added to the mix. The County Development Authority is still in the permit phase of the project with the Army Corp. of Engineers. GFAM Announces Details of its Parks Staffing Services Acquisition Diversification Expected to Significantly Increase Company Revenues in 2008 SANTA MONICA, Calif., March 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Great American Family Parks, Inc. today announced more details of its Parks Staffing Services ("PSS") acquisition, which is part of a wider corporate strategy of diversifying GFAM's revenue sources. Natick police said the mom of the 9-year-old birthday boy apparently became enraged because the other woman’s son was "hogging" an arcade game Saturday night.
