Murphy Brothers Exposition of Tulsa has signed a $2 million contract to buy the failed $30 million theme park out of bankruptcy. Final details were worked out Tuesday morning, sources close to the bankruptcy said, and a motion to sell the park was filed with U.S. Bankruptcy Court Judge Robert Nugent in Wichita. Playland to stress safety to visitors after deadly accidents RYE, N.Y. (AP) — A landmark amusement park plans to step up safety messages for visitors after three people died on its rides within three years. Staffers will greet visitors at Playland's entrance with brochures packed with safety information, ranging from where to find a first-aid station to which rides might frighten small children, Westchester County Parks Commissioner Joseph Stout told county legislators Tuesday. The county-owned park in Rye opens for the season May 3. Animal Kingdom marks 10th anniversary Walt Disney World's Animal Kingdom celebrates its 10th anniversary April 22 with a continued conservation effort and programs aimed at educating vacationers on the Disney Wildlife Conservation Fund. Kings Island loses $20M case Insurer wins appeal not to pay claim over Son of Beast Kings Island's two-year effort to collect on a $20 million court judgment has hit another roadblock. In a 12-page decision issued Tuesday, the Ohio 12th District Court of Appeals in Middletown said an insurance company doesn't have to pay Kings Island that money. A federal court had awarded the sum to Kings Island in 2005 over design and construction problems with its Son of Beast ride. Disneyland to add ‘Alice’ to Small World ride An “Alice in Wonderland” doll wearing a blue dress and a white rabbit in a playing card tunic based on illustrations created by Blair while working on the 1951 animated movie will be added to the England segment of the classic boat ride, officials said. The Alice and rabbit characters will be added near a chessboard and red rose tree already existing in the Small World attraction. Coney Island Carousel Is Dismantled For Makeover The famed 89-year-old wooden merry-go-round that has been a Coney Island fixture since the 1930s is set to undergo a makeover. On Tuesday, carousel experts and fine art movers carefully packed the dismantled Bishoff & Brienstein Carousel for a journey to an Ohio restoration shop where it will be refurbished and eventually returned to Brooklyn. Theme park set to expand Staffordshire’s Drayton Manor Park is in line for a huge expansion which could include a water theme park and a hotel, it has been revealed. Exciting plans for the future of the theme park could also see it open all year round. Turner International to launch Pogo theme park in India by December MUMBAI (Thomson Financial) - Turner International India Pvt Ltd (TII), an AOL Time Warner company, said it will launch its first theme park in the country before the end of 2008. LEGOLAND deal collapses THE multi-million pound Scarborough LEGOLAND Discovery Centre Deal has collapsed. Bosses at Merlin Entertainments - the parent company of LEGOLAND has decided not to go ahead with its plans to build the major tourist attraction as part of the town's North Bay Sands development. Instead the company says it wants to focus its investment in the USA and mainland Europe. Floridaland was the Florida theme park Florida's largest theme park in the 1960s was between Venice and Osprey. Known as Floridaland, the 50-acre park was slightly more than half the size of California's Disneyland, which Walt Disney built on 84 acres of land just 10 years earlier. Aquarium/Zoo News LA zoo fees to increase while action delayed on utility rates LOS ANGELES—Vistiors soon will spend $2 more to get into the Los Angeles Zoo. The City Council voted Tuesday to increase zoo admission fees $2 across the board. That's a 40-percent hike on children's rates. Accreditation for zoo at risk Aging facility in Baltimore must fix fire alarms, worn buildings, low wages The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore could lose its national accreditation unless the aging facility fixes a host of expensive problems stemming from years of financial struggles. The 132-year-old zoo has until September to correct dozens of shortcomings, most concerning infrastructure such as faulty fire alarms, decrepit buildings and drainage. FEC/LBE/Museum News The Cheesecake Factory leaving DisneyQuest After 10 years as the source of burgers, salads, cheesecakes and other food at DisneyQuest, The Cheesecake Factory is pulling out of Walt Disney World's five-story, high-tech arcade in Downtown Disney. Dutch exhibit takes you inside the body OEGSTGEEST, Netherlands - Strap on 3-D glasses and watch holograms of cartoon sperm sprinting to fertilize an egg. Climb inside a gigantic nose, enjoy the smell of fresh hay, then feel the wind blast on your neck when it sneezes. Walk across a bouncy rubber tongue complete with taste buds and realistic burping noises in the background. This all might sound weird or flat-out gross. But the makers of "Corpus," a new attraction in the Netherlands, are hoping that a combination amusement park and health education museum will encourage kids to take better care of their own bodies. Other News Disney Studios helped put sleepy city on map BURBANK - Walt Disney Studios has been conjuring up movie magic in Burbank since moving in 1939 from its former studio in Silver Lake. With profits from the 1937 animated movie "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs," Walt Disney purchased 51 acres on South Buena Vista Street. The facade of the Team Disney building - designed by Michael Graves and completed in 1990 - depicts the seven dwarfs holding up the roof and pays tribute to the seed money used to buy the property. Disney Cruise Line mulls fuel surcharge Even if Disney Cruise Line ultimately decides to join its fellow cruise companies and tack on a new ticket surcharge to cover skyrocketing fuel costs, it will not follow the others in charging even those guests who have already booked. "We will not do that," Tom McAlpin, president of Celebration-based Disney Cruise Line, said last week. McAlpin made the comments following the announcement of a new contract that will keep Disney ships sailing out of Port Canaveral for the next 15 years.
