Amusement/Theme Park News Agreement moves Weeki Wachee close to state park status It's now up to the Southwest Florida Water Management District, but if the organization provides its stamp of approval, then Weeki Wachee Springs could become Florida's newest state park. Executives with Weeki Wachee Springs LLC and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection's Division of Recreation and Parks signed an agreement Thursday that could turn the historic theme park into a state park. Theme Park Plan Frozen Solid WHEELING — Ohio County officials promised in July 2006 that local residents soon would be able to experience a “wild escape” at The Highlands. Now, 18 months later, the proposed Wild Escape theme park seems no closer to reality than it was that summer day when officials announced the project — and judging by the process to date, that may not change anytime soon. CLP board planning to open parts of Park The Trustees of Conneaut Lake Park plan to open — at minimum — Camperland, the boat docks and the Beach Club this year. However, Chairman Jack Moyers cautions, there can be no guarantee that will happen. Fun rides to hit the auction block GATLINBURG - A 1960s carousel, a ferris wheel, and a dozen other antique amusement rides that once made Fun Mountain fun for a different generation of youngsters will be on the auction block Feb. 2 as the 22-acre site is cleared to make way for a future development. Thomas Harvie Joins Board of Directors of Cedar Fair General Partner SANDUSKY, Ohio, Jan. 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Cedar Fair , a leader in regional amusement parks, water parks and active entertainment, today announced that C. Thomas Harvie has been appointed as a Class I Director of its general partner, with a term ending 2010. Mr. Harvie replaces Thomas A. Tracy who retired from the board effective December 31, 2007. Mr. Harvie has been appointed to serve as a member of the board's Compensation Committee and the Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee. Association of amusement parks demand cut in entertainment tax Mumbai (PTI): Indian Association of Amusement Parks and Industries on Saturday asked the state government to bring down the entertainment tax, that stands at a whooping 50 per cent. Bar-Tur: Bible park plans almost ready meeting meant to inform four Rutherford County commissioners about the progress of a proposed Bible-theme park in the Blackman community went on Friday — though none of those invited attended. Instead, three concerned residents showed up for the meeting after reading about it in Friday's edition of The Daily News Journal. What a ride! Hair-raising roller coaster thrills, rambling walks, jokes, and card games till the wee hours – the runners-up of Star-NiE and Pizza Hut's C4R 2007 contest certainly had a grand time in Genting Highlands. Working for Disney No Mickey Mouse Job As the 9-year-old boy ran to get in line at Disneyland, he tripped and skinned his knee. But within minutes, a nursing staff member at the Anaheim, Calif.-based theme park cared for him, and soon he was bandaged and smiling. More than 50 nurses provide care at three of Disney’s Anaheim locations — one of the Disney hotels, as well as the Disneyland and California Adventure theme parks — attending to the medical needs of everyone from guests to shop workers to costumed characters. Waterpark News Making waves with new parks YORKVILLE -- Despite 30-degree temperatures and dreary skies, there is something to look forward to: the water-park season. Warm weather may be months away, but season passes to the region's water parks have been on sale since the holiday season, including tickets to Raging Waves at Illinois 47 and Galena Road in Yorkville, the area's newest water park. Winter's swimsuit season in Michigan Much of the state may be snowbound, but that doesn't mean that winter isn't a prime time for swimming - yes, swimming - in Michigan. Indoor water parks have added to the menu of recreation and vacation options around the state. A recent visit included stops at two of the most prominent: Zehnder's Splash Village in Frankenmuth and Avalanche Bay at the Boyne Mountain resort. Aquarium/Zoo News Aquarium cast takes star turn on YouTube The Newport Aquarium is taking its show on the road via the information superhighway. Aquarium Public Relations Manager Jill Isaacs created a YouTube presence for the attraction at www.youtube.com/NewportAquarium. She figured the aquarium was such a visual experience that YouTube videos would be a way to acquaint media and visitors with the place. FEC/LBE/Museum News Last stop for Celebration Station OK Going once, going twice, SOLD! Celebration Station officially closed it's doors in December but it gave patrons the opportunity to own anything on site of the amusement park. Other News Nickelodeon sells families on cruises with SpongeBob NEW YORK — Nickelodeon might as well call its latest launch Nick at Naut. Viacom's (VIA) popular cable channel for children, eager to diversify its revenue stream, is about to sail into the cruise business with the introduction this week of its Nickelodeon Family Cruise with Royal Caribbean. Lego reaches its 50th birthday Lego is 50 years old. To celebrate, the toy’s manufacturers are planning a series of events, including a world record attempt to build the biggest Lego tower ever.
