Disney is looking for a CMO  WANTED: Chief magic official, aka, CMO. Job duties include creating magical dreams for guests from around the world. The ideal candidate must be happy, never grumpy, able to easily befriend dwarves, dogs, monsters and mice. Must have good manners but can pillage and plunder with pirates when necessary. Must have an interest in oversized teacups and flying elephants.

Disney's 2007 annual report and 2008 proxy  The Walt Disney Co. filed its 2007 annual report and 2008 proxy last week and much of the attention was focused, as usual, on the seven- and eight-figure executive compensation packages for top execs, notably President and Chief Executive Officer Bob Iger's $27.7 million package, highlighted by a $13.7 million performance-based bonus.

4 seriously hurt at Central Florida theme parks at end of '07, records show  Central Florida's major theme parks reported four serious injuries or illnesses from rides during the final three months of 2007, including the previously reported fatal heart attack at Disney's Animal Kingdom, according to records released Tuesday by state regulators.

Jolly Rogers Owner Asks County Commissioners For Help Ocean City amusements parks have been riding a property tax roller coaster lately. Tuesday, Buddy Jenkins, owner of Jolly Roger Amusement Park, asked the County Commissioners for help. He wants them to draft a letter to Delegate Jim Mathias, asking Annapolis for tax relief legislation.

Roller coaster, new Ferris wheel in plans for Bay Beach Amusement park proposal goes to City Council Jan. 29  A wooden roller coaster and a Ferris wheel large enough to be seen from the Leo Frigo Memorial Bridge are some of the improvements under consideration for Bay Beach Amusement Park.

Ohio County Awaiting Response For Highlands Theme Park  The United States Army Corp of Engineers has till February 1st to comment on an Ohio County permit towards the construction of a theme park at the Highlands.

Theme Park for Doncaster?  DEVELOPERS who are behind what they claim will be Europe's biggest theme park say they have shortlisted Doncaster as one of the prospective sites. The proposed Hans Christian Andersen Mega Centre is a £240m scheme that claims it will bring more than 6,000 jobs to the region through the development of a 200-acre fun-fair and leisure complex.

Six Flags to add water ride  Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom will add a water ride this spring called “Mega Wedgie” that sends riders down a tunnel and into a giant 30-foot diameter bowl. The ride will represent a multi-million dollar investment for the amusement park, although spokeswoman Carolyn McLean declined to offer a specific amount.

CITY / INSPECTIONS AFTER SIAM PARK ACCIDENT At least 26 fun parks unlicensed  At least 26 amusement parks in Bangkok are operating without a licence at present, Bangkok Governor Apirak Kosayodhin said yesterday. Mr Apirak said inspections of 32 fun parks in the capital showed that only six of them currently hold licences to operate amusement parks.

More than 4,000 jobs are available at the park voted the "Best Amusement Park in the World" for a record ten consecutive years by the readers of Amusement Today newspaper.

Darien Lake to debut MotoCoaster Zamperla ride will open in May  Darien Lake, Darien Center, New York, will unveil the world's first MotoCoaster from Zamperla this coming May. With riders sat astride a motorbike ride vehicle, the attraction will provide a new and different thrill, one that American coaster riders have not yet experienced.

Waterpark News

CITIZENS HAVE SAY ON WATER PARK  For more than three hours last night, more than 50 people told Fredericksburg's City Council what they thought about plans to offer incentives to Kalahari Resorts for its plan to build a $200 million water park hotel in Celebrate Virginia. As of 10:15 last night, speakers had come out nearly 3-to-1 in favor of the project, but several voiced strong opposition.

City ready to pour $7M into water park Winnipeg is ready to pour $7 million into a privately run water park because cash set aside to build a family-friendly facility in Kildonan Park no longer covers construction costs. Since 2006, the city had planned to spend $9 million on a water park, spray pad and pool upgrades inside Kildonan Park, using money from the $43 million recreation kitty created after city council cancelled bus rapid transit.

Aquarium/Zoo News

2 new dolphins arrive at Minnesota Zoo  The dolphin aquarium at the Minnesota Zoo isn't so lonely anymore - two new dolphins, April and Allie, arrived this week at the Apple Valley zoo. The two female Atlantic bottlenose dolphins join Semo and his daughter Spree, but will not be on public display until after they are fully acclimated to their new surroundings and caretakers.

Cleveland Metroparks Zoo Keeper to Lead National Group Shane Good, an Animal Keeper at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, is the first person ever to serve as president of both the American Association of Zookeepers and the International Congress of Zookeepers. Good was appointed president of the American Association of Zookeepers in September 2007 and has served as president and founding member of the International Congress of Zookeepers since 2005. Combined, the two professional organizations serve thousands of animal keepers around the world. In addition to his work caring for the Zoo’s Australian animals, Good’s involvement with the two professional organizations has included overseeing the national Bowling for Rhinos fundraiser, leading international efforts to save endangered polar bears and helping to form animal keeper associations in South Africa, the Philippines and Latin America. Before becoming president of the American Association of Zookeepers, Good served as its vice president since 2003. Good, 38, has worked as an Animal Keeper at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo since 1992. A resident of Valley City in Medina County, Ohio, he is originally from Cleveland’s Old Brooklyn neighborhood near the Zoo. Good received his Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Baldwin Wallace College and is pursuing a master’s degree in biology at Cleveland State University. ---end story---
