Cedar Fair Entertains More Than 22 Million Guests in 2007 SANDUSKY, Ohio, Jan 09, 2008 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- Cedar Fair (NYSE: FUN: 20.25, -0.26, -1.26%), a leader in regional amusement parks, water parks and active entertainment, today announced that combined attendance in 2007 at its eighteen locations totaled 22.1 million guests compared with 19.3 million in 2006. During this same period, preliminary average in-park guest per capita spending increased 5% to $40.45 compared with $38.71 in 2006.

New Market moves forward with Adventure Park annexation  NEW MARKET, Maryland -- After 15 months of court disputes with private companies, an agreement to annex Adventure Park USA into town may be near. The town council voted unanimously Wednesday night to approve the deal.

New interactive attractions which enable riders to individually control the experience as well as the intensity of the ride have been developed to cater for a generation that has grown up glued to computers, the internet and game consoles.

Westgate’s Indoor Water Park, Wild Bear Falls, Launches www.wgwildbearfalls.com  Gatlinburg, TN, January 10, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Westgate Smoky Mountain Resort’s Wild Bear Falls, the largest indoor water park in the South, has launched a website, http://www.wgwildbearfalls.com. The website offers packages to the water park with accommodations at Westgate Smoky Mountain Resort and River Terrace Resort as well as single, 3 day and 5 day admission tickets.

Former waterslide site valued at $3.9 million  LONG BRANCH, NJ  - A panel of retired judges has determined that the site of the former oceanfront waterslide and amusement park is worth $3.9million. The 4-acre parcel of land onOceanAvenue was condemned by Long Branch officials in March 2001, and the city offered ownerWest of Pier Associates, comprised of the Cicalese family, $1.4million for the property.

Sydney Attractions tries to buy loyalty - a dividend surprise  SYDNEY Attractions Group, the owner of the Sydney Aquarium, has not let down its guard during the summer break, saying it will pay an interim dividend for the first time in two years, in another attempt to spoil Village Roadshow's hostile $113 million takeover bid.

MONTEREY $25 million to create new marine center  The David and Lucile Packard Foundation has donated $25 million to create a center in Monterey dedicated to protecting the world's oceans, officials announced Wednesday. Called the Center for Ocean Solutions, it will be run by Stanford University, the Monterey Bay Aquarium and their nearby research institutions. Stanford's Hopkins Marine Station at Cannery Row is the oldest marine research lab on the West Coast, and Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute is in Moss Landing.

Officials reflect on outgoing zoo director  OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma City Zoological Trust tried to keep Executive Director Bert Castro at the city zoo, but could not counter the Phoenix zoo’s offer, trust chairman Dick Beshear said. Castro, who has headed the city zoo for nearly seven years, was approached by Phoenix officials last year. He will take over as chief executive at that park Feb. 1.

Board cautious on zoo plans  Members of the Polk County Conservation Board on Wednesday said they are hopeful a plan can be devised that balances Blank Park Zoo's desire to expand to county parkland and the board's public land protection policy. City and county officials in recent days have agreed to take until April to hash out a plan that could allow the zoo's expansion onto about 16 acres of Fort Des Moines Park on the city's south side.

Nearly 300,000 Guests Visit BODY WORLDS at Discovery Place Museum announces exhibition attendance number Discovery Place, one of the top hands-on science museums in the nation, today announced that Gunther von Hagens’ BODY WORLDS: The Anatomical Exhibition of Real Human Bodies was the most, highly-attended exhibition in the Museum’s 26-year history. It is estimated that 297,706 guests visited BODY WORLDS between the exhibition’s opening, June 13, 2007 and closing, Jan. 6, 2008. ---end story---


Carousel Family Fun Center challenges sprinkler laws MA  Carousel Family Fun Center will keep its doors open after a court sided with the business in a sprinkler dispute. The town of Whitman had ordered them to close for not installing a sprinkler system.

Kentucky Horse Park receives award  The Kentucky Horse Park -- the world-renowned educational theme park and equine competition facility, and as well as home for 23 years to the great racehorse John Henry - has been honored with the 2007 Special Eclipse Award, the National Thoroughbred Racing Association announced today. The Special Eclipse Award honors outstanding individual achievements or contributions to thoroughbred racing.
