Amusement/Theme Park News Cedar Fair Reports Results for 2007 -- Net Revenues Increase to $987 Million-- Generates a Record $341 Million in Adjusted EBITDA-- Provides Positive Outlook for 2008 SANDUSKY, Ohio, Feb. 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Cedar Fair , a leader in regional amusement parks, water parks and active entertainment, today announced results for its fourth quarter and year ended December 31, 2007. The 2006 comparable figures include the results of the Paramount Parks since their acquisition from CBS Corporation on June 30, 2006. Cedar Fair's combined operations generated full-year revenues of $987.0 million, with income before taxes of $9.7 million and a net loss of $4.5 million, or $0.08 per diluted limited-partner (LP) unit. In 2006, combined revenues for the company were $831.4 million, with income before taxes of $126.6 million and net income of $87.5 million, or $1.59 per diluted LP unit. Included in the 2007 results is a non-cash impairment charge of $54.9 million, or $1.00 per diluted LP unit, relating to the Geauga Lake restructuring. Disney Makes Bears Look Goofy Just last week, Citi analyst Jason Bazinet downgraded Disney (NYSE: DIS), fearing that weakening consumer spending trends and anecdotal evidence of last-minute resort discounting would eat into the family-entertainment giant's performance. Legoland’s new Lost Kingdom of Adventure dark ride vehicle Riders on Legoland California’s Lost Kingdom of Adventure dark ride will travel aboard a 1920s-esque off-road vehicle evocative of a Hudson Motor Car touring sedan. Legoland given permission to hold campouts CARLSBAD -- Legoland California has received the permission it needed from the City Council to start offering pirate-themed sleepovers at the park, but no one's coming camping at least until summer 2009. There's too much going on at the park now to start another construction project, said John Jakobsen, the park's president and general manager. Lake Compounce plans detailed SOUTHINGTON - A new slide proposed for the expanded water park at the Lake Compounce amusement park would be 75 feet tall. And while that might seem high, park operators say it will appeal to families, not daredevils. £90,000 to bulldoze the last American Adventure rides A massive £90,000 is being spent on bulldozing the remaining rides at the American Adventure theme park and keeping the site secure. Derbyshire County Council is currently paying a company to keep the 112-acre site at Shipley secure after concerns people were trespassing there. Summer Employment Wonderland Canada's Wonderland; Where Fun is Serious Business. VAUGHAN, ON, Feb. 7 /CNW/ - Be a part of something big as Canada's Wonderland looks to fill 4,000 jobs for the Park's 28th operating season. As Canada's largest single location employer of youth and one of York Region's top employers, Wonderland not only offers unique experience in the hospitality and entertainment industries but in the business industry as well. Job fairs are already underway at the Park with additional dates scheduled throughout the month of February. Waterpark News Roaring Springs Water Park owners buy Boondocks The sale means that soon families can buy one ticket for both places It is a business acquisition a kid could love - and maybe an adult who's a kid at heart. The owners of Roaring Springs Water Park in Meridian have purchased Boondocks Fun Center, the largest arcade and recreation center in the valley. The sale closed Jan. 31. Great Wolf Resorts Closes $55 Million Mortgage Loan MADISON, Wis., Feb. 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Great Wolf Resorts, Inc. , North America's leading family of indoor waterpark resorts, today announced that the company has closed on a $55 million mortgage loan. The loan is secured by the company's Great Wolf Lodge resort in Williamsburg, Virginia and bears interest at a floating rate of LIBOR plus 300 basis points, with a minimum rate of 6.50 percent per annum. Aquarium/Zoo News San Francisco Zoo finishes tiger exhibit overhaul Exhibit now meets industry standards Workers are finishing up an overhaul of the big-cat exhibit at San Francisco Zoo after a fatal Christmas Day attack by an escaped tiger. The renovations include raised walls, new glass barriers and electrified wires to keep the animals from trying to escape. FEC/LBE/Museum News Sands Shift in Pyramid Saga At least one Memphis City Council member expects changes to the tentative terms of a development agreement between local government and Bass Pro Shops for use of The Pyramid. Meanwhile, the developer of the rival Pyramid Harbor project has made some changes to his plans already. As Wii changes gaming, video arcades pull back TOKYO: The Wii, the popular game console from Nintendo, may be a major headache for a rival like Sony, but for operators of game arcades the pain is proving just as intense. In an unexpected downward revision to its earnings outlook, Namco Bandai Holdings, a toy and amusement arcade company, said it would close 50 to 60, or about one-fifth, of its arcades, depressing its shares for a second consecutive session Thursday. Dream Arcades DEL MAR – The fiberglass mascot of the new Pelly's Mini Golf course is a proud bird with bulging eyes and a big, grinning bill. A dozen of the California brown pelicans can be spotted around the grounds. One is perched in a lifeguard chair wearing sunglasses and a straw hat. Another is flexing a wing at the Mussel Beach hole. Other News Will Crystal Palace rise again? Plans for a replica of the original Crystal Palace are being worked on by architects and developers. The original building was built by Sir Joseph Paxton in Hyde Park for the Great Exhibition of 1851, under the patronage of Prince Albert. After being moved to a location in Sydenham, now known as Crystal Palace Park, it was destroyed by fire in 1936.
