Amusement/Theme Park News Fire Marshall: No evidence of arson CONNEAUT LAKE PARK — Even though “arson” is the word most often heard on the street, Friday’s fire at Conneaut Lake Park was so large, so hot and so destructive that even a point of origin for the blaze is impossible to detect. So, after a detailed investigation — and conceding that indeed it might have been the work of an arsonist — officials had to settle for “undetermined” as the cause on Monday morning. CN To Open Kuwaiti Theme Park Cartoon Network Enterprises (CNE) and Future Kid & Real Estate Company have announced an agreement to create a fully branded Cartoon Network indoor theme park in Kuwait City that will open in 2008. The deal represents the first CNE venture into branded theme parks within the EMEA region. Disney Theme-Park Profit May Drop This Year, Pushing Down Stock Walt Disney Co. Chief Executive Officer Robert Iger says families would rather visit Walt Disney World than fix a broken refrigerator. As consumers' cash flow dwindles, this year may prove him wrong. The world's biggest theme-park operator may post a 6.7 percent drop in resort-unit operating profit to $1.6 billion this fiscal year, estimates Citigroup Inc. analyst Jason Bazinet. Click for Article Hard Rock unhappy with drill's publicity The $400 million theme park has been busy trying to generate hype for its planned opening in April. But when Horry County issued a bulletin to media outlets about an upcoming emergency response drill planned at the site, park officials were appalled and issued a sharp reprimand to the county. WORCESTER: Commissioners expected to address Trimper tax issue SNOW HILL -- The Worcester County Commissioners once again are scheduled to address the issue of tax breaks for Trimper Rides and Amusements at today's meeting in Snow Hill. The commissioners are slated to review draft legislation tailor-made for the Trimper family owners and operators of the popular Boardwalk amusement park since 1887. It would allow Worcester County and Ocean City to provide tax relief to the family, who have warned that rising operations and tax costs could force them to shut down. Vietnam’s first 4D cinema opens Vietnam’s first 4D cinema opened Friday in Ho Chi Minh City’s Suoi Tien Theme Park. The 120-seat ALTA Cine 4D Max Suoi Tien in District 9 consists of a 3D screen with a fourth dimension created by special effects such as a six-channel surround sound system, shakable seats and man-made wind, water, bubbles and snow. Waterpark News Hovde: Put me on Great Wolf board A major shareholder of Great Wolf Resorts Inc. is unhappy with the Madison company's lagging performance and plans to nominate an alternate slate of directors to the board. Aquarium/Zoo News Aquarium will benefit from Oxy settlement The Aquarium of Niagara will receive a much-needed grant of $300,000 to develop new displays and exhibits. The funding comes from the State Department of Environmental Conservation as part of a revitalization plan associated with a 2006 lawsuit settlement by Occidental Chemical Corp. Visitors film shark eating shark at public aquarium Visitors to the Mall of America's Underwater Adventures Aquarium have filmed a nine foot Sand tiger shark attempting to swallow another shark. Video footage of the shark attack, which has been posted on the video sharing websites YouTube and LiveLeak, shows the 9'/2.74m long 300lb/136kg Sand tiger shark attempting to swallow a 4.5'/1.37m White tip reef shark. TV's Hottest Cartoon Character At The Cincinnati Zoo SpongeBob SquarePants 4-D is coming to the Cincinnati Zoo. Audiences can join SpongeBob, one of the hottest cartoon characters on television, as he desperately pursues a runaway pickle in his heartfelt desire to serve the perfect Krabby Patty starting March 1. FEC/LBE/Museum News Chuck E. Cheese drops alcohol, bans profanity, gang symbols FLINT TWP. -- Visitors to a local Chuck E. Cheese restaurant won't have the option of a cold brew to go with their Skee-Ball. Company officials have temporarily banned the sale of alcohol at the restaurant at 3489 Miller Road after a Jan. 26 brawl. The fight, which officials don't believe was caused by alcohol, involved 20 to 80 people fighting in the restaurant. Police believe the fight started between three teenage girls. Imax eyes China and Europe to open new screens Imax is looking to open scores of cinema screens in Europe and China as Hollywood's embrace of threedimensional effects presents new challenges and chances for one of the pioneers of 3D. "One of the most frustrating things for me is not being bigger in Europe, because our costs are in US dollars yet our revenues are in euros, so the economics are really compelling," said Richard Gelfond, chief executive of the Ontario-based group. Colleyville theater for sale in foreclosure auction Colleyville: Owner filed for bankruptcy one year after opening The shuttered IMAX movie theater in Colleyville is expected to be auctioned off in a foreclosure sale today. Metro Cinema and Indigo Grille abruptly shut down last month, about six months after its owner filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization. Other News Parking bylaw considered AGAWAM - Two City Council subcommittees have tentatively endorsed a proposal to use and strengthen the city's current zoning ordinance to regulate commercial parking, rather than replacing a much-criticized bylaw the council repealed Nov. 19. The proposal, which would have to be approved by the City Council, includes increasing the current fine of $100 a day for violators, to $100 per car per day.
