Report says Disney theme park for Shanghai likely to move ahead soon, but company denies deal  SHANGHAI, China: A long-anticipated plan to build a Disney theme park in Shanghai is likely to move ahead soon, a state-run newspaper said Friday, though the company denied the report. The Shanghai Securities Journal, citing an unnamed official, said the park is due to be built in the southern outskirts of Shanghai's Pudong district and has already received needed government approvals.

Company charged over girl's theme park death  The owner of a theme park was summoned to court today following an incident nearly four years ago in which a teenage girl was killed. Sunday school teacher Hayley Williams was ejected from the top of the spectacular Hydro ride at Oakwood Theme Park in Pembrokeshire, West Wales, as it began an almost vertical descent into a plunge pool.

Magic Mountain expansion plans revealed  VALENCIA - Hoping to end persistent rumors that Six Flags California will close and be replaced by more of the housing tracts that climb Valencia's hillsides, top brass talked Thursday about expansion plans for 2008. The $14 million plans touch both ends of the spectrum with a new kiddie area called Thomas Town under construction and a face-lift for the thriller coaster X, closed last year for transformation as X2: Xtreme to the Second Power.

Disney World wins dismissal of lawsuit challenging Segway rule The legal challenge had sought to allow disabled visitors to use Segways in Disney's theme parks.  A federal judge in Orlando has thrown out a lawsuit against Walt Disney World aimed at forcing the company to allow disabled visitors to ride two-wheeled Segways in its theme parks.

Water-saving measures will let Six Flags open  The record-setting drought prompted an unusual deal this week between Six Flags Over Georgia and Cobb County. In exchange for installing low-flow toilets, urinals and faucets, the park will be allowed to operate its water rides when it opens March 1.

Jolly Roger Takes Message To County  SNOW HILL – The introduction of state legislation allowing Worcester County and Ocean City to reduce taxes for Trimper’s Rides at the Boardwalk prompted Jolly Roger Amusement Park to ask for the same consideration this week, but the County Commissioners will not vote on their support for a tax break for Jolly Rogers until they see the draft legislation.

Theme park launches “Name the baby dolphin” contest  SANTO DOMINGO.- Dolphin Island Park is holding the contest “Name the baby dolphin,” to celebrate the birth of the first dolphin in its facilities on August 2007.

O'Grattan to take over Disneyland operations; Carter to lead Hollywood Studios  Operations at Disneyland, the granddaddy and cornerstone of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, is being placed into the hands of Michael O'Grattan, currently vice president of Disney's Hollywood Studios.

Zoombezi Bay slides toward its May opening at Columbus Zoo  With ongoing construction projects totaling $45 million, the zoo's May opening of the Zoombezi Bay water park is only part of the future enhancement of the visitor experience at the complex following the 2006 buyout of Wyandot Lake.

Personal cabana awaits at Aquatica   A fancy factor of Aquatica, the new water park of SeaWorld Orlando, will come in the form of 18 "personal cabanas." It's a concept that drifted over from Discovery Cove, SeaWorld's other attraction. I haven't spied the cabanas -- they'll be ensconced across the white-sand beach area, which wasn't completed when I had a peek recently. But paying extra for personal space/beachfront property may be tempting.

Aquarium renovation plans scaled back  The spectacular renovation of the New York Aquarium in Brooklyn is being watered down because of soaring costs, sources said Thursday. The original design, which included thousands of LED lights and a dazzling whale-like shape, will be scrapped because estimated costs have swelled from $125 million to $200 million, sources said.

Council OKs zoo entry fee hike  The City Council voted Thursday night to raise admission prices at the Tulsa Zoo and Living Museum for the first time in six years. An increase of $2 for adults and senior citizens and $1 for children will take effect March 1.

Zoo tiger takes stroll outside its enclosure  Honolulu Zoo administrators will review the zoo's animal holding procedures after an incident yesterday in which a 245-pound male Sumatran tiger walked out of its enclosure and briefly roamed into an unsecured area.

Chester Zoo's membership hits new record  CHESTER ZOO annual memberships are at an all time high, with a record 31,000 people signed up. Zoo members pay an annual fee, which entitles them to many benefits, including unlimited free admission throughout the year during normal public opening times, free admission to other leading zoos, 20 per cent discount in the zoo gift shops, restaurants and cafes and a quarterly full colour zoo magazine.

Too Much 'Rancor' Creeps in to Bass Pro Deliberations  Day two of the Bass Pro Pyramid road show came with political overtones, a quick exodus from a meeting room and agreement that the retailer probably won't pay any rent to the city and county. Pyramid project director Robert Lipscomb Wednesday presented terms of the tentative development agreement to Shelby County Board of Commissioners. Memphis City Council members were briefed Tuesday.

GE Says No To NBCU Selloff, Wall Street Disagrees  GENERAL ELECTRIC CEO JEFF IMMELT was adamant in December when he declared the multinational conglomerate "is worth more with NBC as part of it than it would be without NBC."   The public sale of NBCU's broadcast, cable, film, theme park and Internet businesses could collectively generate at least $45 billion, or 14.5 times estimated 2008 earnings.
