category. Amusement/Theme Park News Mermaids' spring becomes state park Florida says it plans to retain the shows that made the 60-year-old Weeki Wachee attraction famous. WEEKI WACHEE - Things are going swimmingly in Weeki Wachee Springs. A years-long dispute between the company that runs the famous mermaid attraction and a water management district that owns the property was officially put to rest Monday. Disneyland Paris promotes new ride online Disneyland Resort Paris has launched a campaign site to promote the launch of its new ride, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. Part of a through-the-line campaign for the April launch of the ride, disneytowerofterror.com allows users to upload photos that can then be manipulated to make them look like the subject has travelled to the 4th dimension. Appu Ghar told to hand over of land within two months: SC NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Friday directed the management of Appu Ghar, a two-decade-old amusement park here shut down on February 17, to hand over the possession of land to it and the DMRC by April. Developer Awaiting Permits For Ohio County Theme Park Officials said permits for an Ohio County theme park could be here any day. Steve Minard, project developer for the Wild Escape Theme Park, said he is awaiting public comments that the Army Corps is currently gathering. The comment period ended on Feb. 1, but Minard said the corps is likely accepting responses sent in after that date. Family Kingdom Amusement Park Named Finalist In I.C.E. Awards Myrtle Beach, S.C. — Family Kingdom Amusement Park in Myrtle Beach, S.C., has been announced as a finalist in the Impeccable Customer Service Awards (I.C.E.) being held Feb. 21, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. at the House of Blues in North Myrtle Beach. Family Kingdom is in the Amusement/Entertainment category. The awards honor individuals who have excelled in customer service and businesses that have raised the bar of hospitality. WORCESTER: Commissioners to discuss tax breaks for Jolly Roger SNOW HILL -- The Worcester County Commissioners helped one Ocean City amusement park to legislate its tax relief, and now the other amusement park in town wants equal treatment. The commissioners will discuss today how to handle tax breaks for Buddy Jenkins, owner of Jolly Roger Amusement Park, after already having backed pending tax relief legislation for Trimper Rides and Amusements. Knott's hiring for summer jobs Buena Park theme park is beginning its annual recruitment effort for positions at park, hotel and restaurants. BUENA PARK – Knott's Berry Farm will hold a job fair Thursday through Saturday to fill more than 1,000 job openings for the spring and summer seasons. Walt Disney World to rebuild Treehouse Villas Hidden among the trees in an obscure part of Walt Disney World, one of Disney's more unusual and largely forgotten housing options is getting new life. The giant resort intends to tear down and replace Disney's Treehouse Villas, a community of 60 two-story housing units that have been used at various times as for-rent lodging, Disney Institute guest housing, and international student-worker housing. Bible park battle 'far from over' Members of the grass-roots opposition to a proposed Bible park in the Blackman community say they're getting better organized to build their case against the development. Blackman area resident Rafe Hyatt said in the coming weeks the group will be doing research and gathering facts to counter the arguments made by the developers in three open houses held last week in Rutherford County to showcase plans for the $175 million park — which has a working title of Bible Park USA. Police say the little boy nearly drowned at the Coco Key Water Park in Sharonville. Aquarium/Zoo News New Boat Trips Planned At Tennessee Aquarium An exciting new journey is about to launch at the Tennessee Aquarium. Visitors will soon have the opportunity to extend their Aquarium experience by venturing into the heart of “Tennessee’s Grand Canyon.” The River Gorge Explorer will transport as many as 70 passengers – up to five times daily - into the Gorge to experience this unspoiled stretch of the Tennessee River. Clearwater Marine Aquarium reopens today Clearwater, Florida - Later this morning we'll get an inside look at the new and improved Clearwater Marine Aquarium. It has been closed for six weeks while the entire interior of the facility has been re-designed and refurbished, including additional exhibits and viewing areas. Aquarium features pirate exhibit Ripley's Aquarium in Myrtle Beach features a pirate exhibit, sea critters and kids' camps. "Pirates: Predators of the Sea" is an interactive voyage that includes a video in the exhibit's mini-theater, teaches pirate facts, dispels pirate myths, portrays their lifestyle and features tales of famous pirates, including William Kidd, Henry Morgan and Edward Teach, also known as Blackbeard. FEC/LBE/Museum News Phoenix science center gets expensive new look PHOENIX — In an attempt to balance education with entertainment, the Arizona Science Center in downtown Phoenix is raising money for a $25 million transformation from floor to ceiling. Hoping to add some theme-park pizazz, the 25-year-old museum is adding two new galleries, including one called the Forces of Nature.
