category. Amusement/Theme Park News Disneyland Resort president discusses expansion Plans include a new Tinker Bell attraction to open at Disneyland in October. IRVINE – More rides, theme park land and hotel rooms are in the future for the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, said Disneyland Resort President Ed Grier Wednesday. Disney plans to add a Tinker Bell attraction at Disneyland in October, 253 rooms to the Grand Californian Hotel and Spa and new rides and themed lands to Disney's California Adventure. Six Flags looks forward to unveiling of 'Dark Knight' It's one of the most trustworthy harbingers of summer -- the opening of Six Flags Great America in Gurnee. The 2008 season kicks off Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Custom ears for customers If old-style Mickey hats don't say YOU, Disney World offers an option. Magic Kingdom guests now can create their own variations of Disney's signature ear hats, even if that means choosing fuzzy trim or bejeweled ears that (gasp!) don't match. The Chapeau, a store near the entrance of the theme park, started offering options in the classic Mouse headwear last month, and it's the only place in the world where they are available. Civil Air Patrol cadets to offer info at Six Flags JACKSON - On Aug. 27 local Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops and the general public will be treated to special presentations to be given by the New Jersey Wing Civil Air Patrol (CAP), the U.S. Air Force Auxiliary. The Six Flags Great Adventure park management and the Scout Council have invited CAP to train scouts and exhibit the CAP program for the last three years. Roaring Springs Ready to Fight Crypto Illness Meridian, Idaho -- Last year more than 500 Idahoans were infected with a parasite-caused illness often spread through contact with human waste in public pools. Zoo officials do not expect to spend the entire line of credit from PNC Bank because revenues have improved since the March birth of an elephant -- whose name will be unveiled at his public debut Saturday. Safari Park Plan Raises Concerns About Possible Conflict With Zoo TAMPA - Lex Salisbury's little-known side business gained nationwide attention this week as he spent the last few days chasing a dozen patas monkeys that escaped from his exotic animal park in Polk County. Salisbury is mostly known for his job as president and CEO of the nonprofit Lowry Park Zoo in Tampa, a position that pays more than $271,000 a year, according to the zoo's most recent tax filings. Minnesota Zoo babies come in twos The zoo announced the birth of its newest arrival, a baby takin, on the same day it introduced its new week-old baby Bactrian camel. Wednesday, the Minnesota Zoo announced the arrival of a baby takin. The birth occurred at 10:30 a.m., though it's still too early to determine the baby's gender.
Birmingham Zoo to open interactive kangaroo exhibit Sunday There are seven new kangaroos at the Birmingham Zoo and, starting this weekend, visitors can get up close and personal with them, no bars included. The kangaroos are the centerpiece of an interactive exhibit that opens to the public Sunday. It will eventually include wombats, wallabies and other Australian animals. Other News Genting subsidiary gets loan for S'pore casino project RESORTS World at Sentosa said on Thursday it had obtained a S$4 billion loan to finance two-thirds of its casino project in the city-state. Resorts World, a subsidiary of Malaysia's Genting International, is building an integrated casino resort on Sentosa, scheduled to open in 2010.
