A century of Quassy Park  MIDDLEBURY -- On Monday, Eric Anderson moved swiftly from one end of Quassy Amusement Park to the other, clutching a checklist in his hand. The hum and whiz of power tools pierced the air while mechanics bolted down a new giant yellow carnival slide and made repairs to rides that had been out of commission since last summer.

Theme Parks: Michigan's Adventure, Cedar Point offer new rides, top rankings  MUSKEGON -- Michigan's Adventure and Cedar Point theme parks are gearing up for the 2008 season with new rides and attractions and top rankings. Michigan's Adventure, the state's largest amusement park, opened as Deer Park Funland Muskegon in 1956. Now also a water park ("you get two parks for the price of one," said Laure Bollenbach, group sales manager), Michigan's Adventure is introducing the Thunderhawk this year.

Rutherford commissioners await Bible Park details   MURFREESBORO — Less than a month before developers of Bible Park USA hope to have the project approved by the Rutherford County Commission, many commissioners say they still don't know enough about the development. Developers of the estimated $200 million Bible theme park have said they hope the County Commission will approve the financing package and rezoning request at its May 15 meeting.

Busch theme parks go greener with biodegradable food containers, other conservation ideas Busch theme parks' biodegradable, organic dishes are just the beginning of its goals  SeaWorld Orlando and other Busch Entertainment Corp. parks are converting their food-service containers and tableware supplies to versions made from materials that are both farm-raised organic — such as corn and bamboo — and biodegradable.

Waterpark News

Watervliet water park opens   WATERVLIET, MI -- Surfari Joe's Indoor Wilderness Waterpark opened April 4 at the Ramada Hotel at Exit 41 (M-140) off I-94 in Watervliet. The African-themed, 18,000-square-foot waterpark includes a tube slide, a 300-foot body slide, a ``lazy'' river, an activity pool, a hot tub for adults and a toddler's play area that features two slides and tipping bucket.

Warm weather boosts Adventure Landing's water parks  The president discusses recent success, plans to expand and a new ride.  Headquartered in Jacksonville Beach, Adventure Landing operates nine parks in four states - Florida, North Carolina, New York and Texas. Adventure Landing has miniature golf, go-cart rides, batting cages, game arcades and other year-round activities. But summer is its busiest season with employment peaking at 850 companywide. President Hank Woodburn talked about the water park's new $500,000 ride, dubbed The Undertow, and how the company is handling the economy's bumpy ride.

Fish Pass  Discounts at 10 Chattanooga tourist attractions and restaurants are included in the new two-day Big Fish Pass from the Tennessee Aquarium. This “all-you-can-sea” deal enables visitors to enjoy both aquarium buildings — River Journey and Ocean Journey — as often as they would like over two days.

Power surge causes fish kill at aquarium   The Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium in Highland Park lost 15 freshwater fish when a power surge hit the aquarium building Saturday. The power surge knocked out the air-conditioning system at the aquarium, officials said.

Adventure Quest comes to Forge  PIGEON FORGE - If you've been wondering what's going on with the former Helicopter Headquarters on the Parkway, here's the answer. The building was purchased last December by the investment group Holrob-Henderson Chapel. The property was then leased to Adventure Quest Entertainment Group, an affiliate of Holrob-Henderson and owned in part by Pigeon Forge resident Jay Ogle. That firm is planning an indoor amusement park.

Ferris wheel gets a permanent home in Malacca  MALACCA: The state will be investing RM42mil in a joint-venture project for the construction of an integrated complex to permanently house the Eye On Malaysia Ferris wheel by the year’s end.
