New Six Flags roller coaster is nearly off and spinning  With twisting helixes and wild mouse turns, the new Tony Hawk roller coaster is getting ready for its debut at Six Flags Over Texas next month. The steel coaster, the latest addition to the Arlington theme park, cost $6.5 million to build and is in the final phase of construction.

Disneyland 1956  Shawn's note:  Here's a classic home video from the Barstow family of Wethersfield, Connecticut, who won a contest in 1956 to visit Disneyland.  It details their winning the contest, their journey, and being at Disneyland.  If you have 30 mins, its rather entertaining.

What will become of the Geauga Lake Park property?  With the deadline for sealed bids having been extended, a little more than a month remains before all interested parties must submit bids for the purchase of nearly 500 acres at Geauga Lake Park. Ever since Cedar Fair Entertainment Co. announced last September that it would shutter the amusement park side of the park, speculation among area residents has run wild about what may become of the properties which straddle Aurora and Bainbridge Township.

Scenic railway repairs will be legally binding  Legal action will be taken to ensure Margate’s historic scenic railway is properly repaired. Thanet Council’s planning committee has voted unanimously in favour of taking legal steps to secure the future of the fire-damaged feature at Dreamland.

Small park outside Douliou offers family daytrip  If Gukeng (古坑) in Yunlin County (雲林縣) was ever famous, it was only due to its coffee. The town and surrounding area are one of the only places in Taiwan where it's possible to grow coffee beans, and people have long been traveling from as far away as Taipei and Kaoshiung to drink the product. Until recently though, they never had a reason to stop in the town itself; people either went to the nearby Janhushan Amusement Park (劍湖山), or drove straight up to Huashan (華山) to try their brew there instead.

Theme park thrills for ambassador  ISRAELI Ambassador Yuval Rotem and his family visited Dreamworld and WhiteWater World on the Gold Coast this week for some holiday thrills. Rotem tried out the newest ride at Dreamworld, the  Mick Doohan Motorcoaster, which features life-size replicas of 500cc racing bikes which zoom to 720km/hour in three seconds.

Selectmen allow new day passes at water resort  DANVERS — CoCo Key Water Resort officials have agreed to tighten security in its arcade while selectmen have agreed to a license change that lets the water resort offer passes to families and groups without them having to rent a room. "What you have told us makes good sense for our community and your organization, and it makes sense for your business plan," Selectmen Dan Bennett said Tuesday night.

Great Wolf Resorts, Inc. to Hold First-Quarter 2008 Earnings Call on May 6  Great Wolf Resorts, Inc. , North America's leading family of indoor waterpark resorts, today announced that the company will release first-quarter 2008 financial results on Tuesday, May 6, 2008, before the market opens. The company will hold a conference call at 10 a.m. EDT on that day to discuss its results.

Aquarium/Zoo News

Georgia Aquarium adds cell phone tours Visitors can make a call to learn more about exhibits   their cell phones to get information on exhibits as they tour the world's largest fish tank. Instead of using the more traditional headphones and a taped recording as a guide, as at many attractions, visitors to the aquarium dial a number on their cell phones if they want to know more about, say, beluga whales or otters. Each call lasts about one minute.

Museum plans to put the oohs and aahs back in science After makeover, visitors can walk through a tornado or make their own rainbows  The Museum of Science and Industry announced plans Wednesday to revamp some of its largest, most familiar exhibit spaces as a part of a major effort to spur children's interest in science and improve science education in schools.

Bandai opens Asian games center  HONG KONG – Japanese games giant Namco Bandai Thursday unveiled its flagship Asian entertainment center in Hong Kong. Somewhere between a theme park and a retail shop, the center located in the Causeway Bay district's World Trade Center, is counting on over a million visitors in its first year. Having built it at a cost of Y130 million ($1.28 million), Namco Enterprises Asia Ltd. says it expects annual revenues of over $3.97 million.

City’s Coney Island Design Revised to Break Deadlock  The Bloomberg administration has revised its redevelopment plan for the Coney Island waterfront in an effort to break a deadlock with some landowners and elected officials while still preserving the area’s historic amusement district, which includes the Wonder Wheel and the Cyclone roller coaster.
