Hard Rock Park opens its gates First day results in smiles and no traffic problems  The rock 'n' roll revolution is under way in Myrtle Beach. The public got its first taste of the $400 million Hard Rock Park on Tuesday during the park's soft opening, which it dubs a "Sound Check." Park officials would not say exactly how many people came, citing competitive reasons.

Six Flags: No Dark Knight coaster in 2008  AGAWAM - Citing construction delays, Six Flags New England announced today that its new $7.5 million Dark Knight Coaster will not open in 2008. Construction was halted for a time by Agawam building officials' concerns over flood plain issues and changes in the footprint of the structure.

Kentucky Kingdom defends maintenance plan Family had given out information  Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom officials defended their ride-maintenance procedures yesterday in the wake of new information released by the family of 14-year-old Kaitlyn Lasitter in their lawsuit against the park.

Six Flags aims to become content company like Disney  LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Theme park operator Six Flags Inc. is aiming to become an entertainment company with its own characters to entice thrill-seekers to its parks much like The Walt Disney Co., its chief executive said Tuesday.

Theme park injuries in 1st Q of 2008: seizures, broken bones  Florida’s major theme parks reported that several broken bones, a couple of seizures and a spinal injury were suffered by visitors during the first quarter of 2008. Information on those incidents was released this morning by the Florida Bureau of Fair Ride Inspections.

Visitors to Disney Theme Parks in Tokyo Reach 436 M.  Tokyo, Apr 15, 2008 (Jiji Press) - The cumulative number of visitors to Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea reached 436.43 million at the end of March, Oriental Land Co. <4661> said Tuesday.

Investors postpone plans for water park in Deerfield Beach  DEERFIELD BEACH - Investors who own 97 acres that comprise the former Tam O'Shanter Country Club postponed their plans for a water park while the city pursues county and state grants to purchase the property for green space. By a 3-2 vote, commissioners Tuesday night approved the abatement and discussed how to fund the possible $10 million purchase.

Waterpark still on schedule  OH  Work at the Wapakoneta Waterpark construction site and tasks associated with assembling staff is progressing on schedule, a city administrator says. “The contractor is in constant communication with us and everything is on schedule,”Wapakoneta Recreation Director Jack Hayzlett said after Monday’s Wapakoneta City Recreation Board meeting. “It looks great, and if you drive by you can start to see some form to it — the walls of the baby pool are up, all the footings and foundations are done and they poured the floors of both pools.

Ex-zoo executive steps down from new job  Manny Gonzalez, the former No. 2 executive at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, has resigned his leadership of the Zoological Society of Florida after less than five months. Gonzalez quit Friday after deciding the society, which markets and raises money for the Miami Metro Zoo, wasn’t ready for the sweeping changes he’d envisioned.

Cleveland Metroparks Zoo Announces Discovery of Nearly Extinct Giant Turtle in Northern Vietnam CLEVELAND, April 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Cleveland Metroparks Zoo today announced the discovery of a critically endangered turtle in northern Vietnam that previously was thought to be extinct in the wild. Experts from the Zoo's Asian Turtle Program confirmed they have identified the only known living specimen of a Swinhoe's soft-shell turtle (Rafetus swinhoei) in nature.

(NYSE:CEC) today announced that it will host a conference call with investors on Tuesday, April 22, 2008, to discuss financial results for the first quarter ended March 30, 2008. The conference call will begin at 3:30 p.m. Central Time and will be broadcast live over the Internet. Ferris wheel from SoCal pier on sale; sorry, no ocean view  SANTA MONICA, Calif. (AP) — It won't come with the ocean views, but you can still catch some thrills from riding your very own Ferris wheel, taken straight from the Santa Monica Pier. The nine-story wheel that's been at Pacific Park since 1996 was put up for sale Tuesday on eBay.
