Six Flags set to open  AGAWAM - Six Flags New England will open its doors for the season on Saturday, but forecasts of heavy rain have forced the postponement of planned opening day ceremonies featuring Gov. Deval L. Patrick. "We're looking at an 85 percent chance of heavy rain on Saturday," Six Flags spokeswoman Melissa M. Pinkerton said yesterday. "We're just going to reschedule (the governor) for nicer weather."

Dubailand 'will not allow delay of projects'  Dubailand has said it would take over any delayed project and build it on its own to ensure timely delivery. Mohammed Al Habbai, Chief Executive of the mega-development, told Emirates Business that no developers will be allowed to delay the construction work on any of the projects.

Conneaut Lake Park set for movie debut  CONNEAUT LAKE PARK — Filmmakers, cast and crew of “The Road” — starring recent Oscar and Golden Globe nominee Viggo Mortensen and Oscar-winning actress Charlize Theron — will visit Conneaut Lake Park to record a portion of the major motion picture around “the end of April,” according to Emma Cooper, publicist for the film.

Editorial: State must give developer final theme park deadline When the Michigan Natural Resources Commission meets Thursday to listen to the man behind a gargantuan theme park being pitched for the piney woods near Grayling, the hearing should be all about two words: Prove it. From Rochester-based Axiom Entertainment commissioners must demand incontrovertible proof that there is, in fact, financing in place to make the $161 million development a reality before agreeing to sell 1,800 acres of state land for the park.

More people added to Great Escape lawsuit  QUEENSBURY — A lawsuit being brought against Six Flags Great Escape Lodge & Indoor Waterpark in connection with a norovirus outbreak that occurred at the facility in mid-March is gathering more steam. Lawyer John Aretakis now has approximately 40 plaintiffs participating in the suit, which alleges negligence and a violation of health codes by Great Escape in relation to the outbreak of gastrointestinal illness, Aretakis said.

Where does the aquarium get all that water?  The next time you're gazing at the sharks, turtles, fish and rays swimming around the Florida Aquarium's crystal-clear tanks, take a minute to consider how all that saltwater gets there. Though the Ybor Channel is just a stone's throw away, it takes a carefully orchestrated routine involving barges, aqueducts, filters and pumps to move it from far out in the gulf to the aquarium's tanks.

Penguins return to Fort Worth Zoo in new exhibit  FORT WORTH -- The Fort Worth Zoo makes way this week for some big-screen giants. After a six-year hiatus, penguins have marched, er, waddled, back into Forest Park. This time, though, they are getting the star treatment that animals of their popularity deserve -- their own exhibit.

Botanical gardens attraction passes first test The Board of Zoning Appeals gave the Punta Gorda project the OK Wednesday. The Peace River Botanical and Sculpture Garden survived its first test Wednesday at the Charlotte County Board of Zoning Appeals meeting, despite protests from numerous nearby residents of the proposed project. The BZA members unanimously approved the rezoning for the not-for-profit Punta Gorda tourist attraction, accepting the recommendations of county staff.

Hershey Trust's CEO will retire The chief of the candy-making sector was ousted last year.  In another high-level departure in Hershey, the chief executive of the Hershey Trust Co., Robert C. Vowler, said he would retire from the company that has overseen investing decisions for one of the world's largest educational endowments. The Hershey Trust manages $8 billion in assets owned by the Milton S. Hershey School for underprivileged children. Among the school's assets is stock that controls the Hershey Co., the chocolate-bar-maker and major Pennsylvania employer, and the Hershey amusement park.
